Adult Mental Health Unit, Belfast

Work is ongoing one the new mental health unit at Belfast City Hospital. This project is particularly challenging due to the requirements of the patients who will be utilising the facility. While the requirements for services are very onerous this is further complicated by the requirement that all products used are to be anti-tamper and anti-ligature. As a result, we have had to be very creative with the products that are being installed. Sometimes bespoke products have had to be sourced; from having nonstandard products powder coated locally to liaising with manufacturers to provide us with products specifically made for the project. Access to services has been a major issue again with lots of time being spent on developing solutions to ensure, spatially, the services are co-ordinated while maintaining access for future maintenance. Due to the commitment of our team these issues have and continue to be, overcome commissioning has commenced and the next few months, while being challenging, will ensure we deliver this much needed facility for the people of Belfast to ensure the trust can provide the correct levels of care.
